"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." – Romans 12:11
Passion for God is the fire that fuels our faith. It’s what keeps us seeking Him in the morning, trusting Him in the trials, and praising Him in the victories. But let’s be honest—sometimes that fire doesn’t burn as brightly as it once did. Life gets busy. Disappointments creep in. The routines of faith can start to feel more like obligations than acts of devotion.
But here’s the good news: passion can be rekindled.
How Do We Keep Our Passion for God Alive?
Remember Your First Love
Think back to when you first fell in love with Jesus—when His grace overwhelmed you, and His presence felt near. What were you doing then that you may have drifted away from now? Revelation 2:4-5 reminds us to return to our first works. Maybe it’s time to go back to the basics—spending intentional time in prayer, worship, and the Word.
Surround Yourself with Firestarters
Passion is contagious. If you feel your spiritual flame dimming, surround yourself with people who are on fire for God. Worship together. Serve together. Encourage one another. As iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), we sharpen each other in faith.
Engage in Ministry & Outreach
Sometimes, our passion fades because we’ve stopped pouring out. When we step out in faith to serve others, we experience God in fresh ways. Whether it’s volunteering, evangelizing, or simply showing love to someone in need, there’s something about living out our faith that reignites our hearts.
Guard Your Spiritual Atmosphere
The things we consume—whether social media, conversations, or entertainment—can either fuel or drain our passion for God. What we feed our spirit determines how strong our fire burns. Make time for worship, biblical teaching, and uplifting community.
Ask God to Rekindle the Fire
Sometimes, all we need to do is ask. Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." If your passion feels weak, pray for revival in your heart. God is faithful to restore and refresh those who seek Him.
The Time is Now
Our church is stepping into a new season—100 years of faithfulness behind us and a future filled with opportunities to grow, serve, and shine God’s light in our city. Don’t let your fire go out. There is a place for you in the work God is doing here.
If your passion has dimmed, let this be your wake-up call. Seek Him. Serve Him. Stay close to Him. And watch as He rekindles the fire within you.
Are you ready to burn bright for God again?
